Mid July Garden Report

I'm so glad I did a lot of work before that disastrous Victoria Day. Though I can't really attack the weeds, I can remove the visually offensive ones. I have one section, down the side of the driveway I'm thinking seriously about lifting all the peonies and Daylilies to clear our the wild buttercups that have established themselves. But that job will wait till next year.

Here's the front.

I managed the final Chelsey Cut today on the garden mums and the Rudbeckia. This will delay their blooming until the Day lilies, that are just starting, are finished around mid to late August.

The back is looking really good and after the trees were removed this Spring the lost roses on the hillside have really responded and the Crocosmia have full sun. I let the perennials 'duke it out' for space over ten years. Those that fail disappear. Those that can grow with their elbows out do very well. We've had a small raised bed in the center for several years. This time around we've pared down the selections to Heirloom tomatoes, peppers and this year. Dahlias. Single file only in the backyard.
